What Is Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractic is a natural method of health care that treats the causes of physical problems, such as low back, hip, and leg pain, rather than just the symptoms.

Chiropractic is based on a simple but powerful premise: with a normally functioning spine and nerves and a healthy lifestyle, your body is better able to heal itself. That's because the spinal cord, which is protected by the spine, is the main pathway of your nervous system. The nervous system controls movement, feeling and function throughout your body.

The nervous system controls the function of every cell, tissue, organ, and system of your body. Your nervous system consists of your brain, spinal cord and millions of nerves. Your brain is protected by the skull, and your spinal cord by the 24 moving bones of the spine. Many everyday activities can cause these spinal bones to lose their normal position or motion. This can result in nervous system dysfunction and ultimately, ill health.

Your chiropractor has at least eight years of professional training in the sciences and health care, leading to a doctor of chiropractic (DC) degree. He or she works to restore your health and guides you in a personalized approach to overall wellness.
